Where Are The PGA Tours Young Guns?

Hello once again web folk and welcome back to the golf blog if this is your first time visiting this page then maybe you would like to follow up reading this post by reading the previous one as well about the PGA tours TV ratings. If you decided not to read the last post and just stick it out here than let’s get going and start thinking about all the young golfers on the rise in the world rankings right now.

It’s no secret that the spot of number one golfer in the world has been up for grabs since November of 2009 when Tiger Woods personal life and golf game started to fall apart. There is no question that his absence from the top spot has left a big hole in the world of golf and especially on the PGA tour. However it has been a good year and a half now since his fall from golf royalty and we still do not have a clear number one in the world. What’s the deal, honestly where are all the young guns of golf that I keep reading about in all the sports pages all over the web?

Seriously though we just recently finished watching the Players Championship there was not one young up and comer in the top three finishers of that tournament. In fact not to be rude about it but they were a bunch of lower ranking golf grinders. They are all good enough to be on the tour obviously but they are not premier players and none of them are in the prime of their careers either. In fact K.J. Choi who won the whole thing was the youngest of the top three at the age of 41, he is only 9 years away from playing on the senior tour! Not exactly the type of golfer the PGA would like to be winning one of it’s major tournaments in my opinion. I am certain that they would have liked Mickelson, Justin, Kim, Fowler, Westwood or McIlroy to have been in the mix of that playoff finish at the Players Championship but we didn’t.

The reason why that is a problem is because of ratings on the TV the PGA television contract is up in 2012 and as of right now they don’t have a dominate super star to drive their sport. Having that Tiger Woods type player in the game is what makes the big money for the PGA Tour roll in for television revenue. Also let’s be honest it just makes it more fun to watch when there is a super star playing at the top of their game. No matter if you want to cheer for them or against them it just makes the sport of golf more enjoyable to watch. For those of you that are aware of the names that I mentioned you may want to check out this post over at the USA Today site about the quality of young golfers chasing that number one in the world spot.

Seriously you need to click on out of here because after reading that you may be wondering like I am who and when are we going to see the next dominant golfer take over the game of golf? If you have an opinion on that or perhaps you think Tiger still has a shot at being number one again then have your say in the comments section down below.

Kudos to you peruser ;-)
