OK lets review some of the finer points of golf and how some if not all of them are ignored at some point or another. When it comes to the game of golf it is considered a gentleman’s game with rule of honor and etiquette. Which lets be honest most of us are out there playing with our buddies probably having a few drinks along the way so a few of these “rules” I am sure are thrown right out of the golf etiquette book.
Lets start with the golf cart perhaps the biggest tease on the course to do a few extra curricular activities like a burn out or a race to the next hole. You know something completely juvenile and not at all what the golf cart was intended for. Proper golf cart driving would be to stay on the golf cart paths and if the carts are permitted to be on the course the driver should follow the 90 degree rule where you make a right or left turn directly to the ball and then back along the same route. Remaining off the fairway is still the objective. I know on those courses that they let you drive on I usually drive right up the fairway and right to the ball ignoring completely the 90 degree rule
Pitch marks and divots, one is caused by your club on the way to the green and the other when your ball sometimes by the grace of the golf gods lands on the green. Lets be honest here most of us do not have a turf tool to fix divots and pitch marks. Did you even know there were tools for this very purpose? For most of us the turf tool we carry is the club we have in our hand and our foot. I will leave that turf repair stuff to the pros and the grounds keepers. That’s why we pay all those membership fees right?
Well what is your opinion on these two golf etiquette rules? What level of a golfer do you think you are when you start to strictly follow these rule? Am I wrong in thinking that most weekend players don’t pay much attention to the finer points of golf etiquette? Please share your opinions and thanks for reading.
