Bigger Golf News Tiger Conference Or Vijay Victory

Well we have finally seen an end to the golf season for 2008 and with the final tournament being hosted by Tiger Woods. The fact that this tournament was the first news conference to be held by Tiger Woods is probably the biggest news the PGA golf tournament has seen since Tiger left the game for his re-constructive knee surgery back in the beginning of the year. Just the fact that Tiger holding a news conference was big news for the sport is an indication of how badly the PGA needs Tiger Woods to come back in 2009.

Of course that was the big question for his news conference was how was the knee and does he have an expected date for his return. On the plus side he says his leg is feeling stronger than ever and he has already begun hitting short clubs but nothing to pressing as of yet. Tiger stated that he is on schedule but there is no expected date for his return as of yet.  So the PGA will remain in a holding pattern for the start of their 2009 season hopeful that Tiger returns in time for the start of  major tournaments.

Oh by the way did anyone notice that Vijay Singh had a stellar year, won the last tournament of the season and was the winner of the Fed Ex Cup and the top money winner for 2008? Seriously did anyone even notice the great year that Vijay had this year? I did not think so, no more than the hardcore fans. The everyday casual watchers fell off the PGA radar when Tiger went away which is a shame for the game of golf in general.

Will Tiger return to number one status in 2009? Is that expecting too much from him after such a long lay off? How many more years do you think it will be before Tiger breaks the Jack Nicklaus record for major victories at 18?
