Do you play the sport of golf? If so have you seen these giant golf specialty stores called Golf Galaxy? The only thing that is actually missing from these giant golfing supermarkets is the fact that they are located in strip malls and not on a golf course. Traditionally if you wanted to goto a golf specialty store you would generally do your shopping at the local driving range or golf course.
As the popularity of golf has grown over the years so has the public need to shop for everything golf. I remember going to sporting good stores when I was young and you would not see anymore golf stuff than you would any other sport. Now you see entire sections of sporting goods stores dedicated to golf clothing, golf accessories even golf magazines and books on golf.
I would say that if not for the popularity of Tiger Woods that a specialty store as large as Golf Galaxy would have never been as successful as they have been. It amazes me every time I see one of these golf Galaxy stores next to a Target or Best Buy. Really? That many people love the game of golf that they spend enough money on it to keep a big box store the size of Golf Galaxy in business?
I can only imagine that with the terrible mess the economy is in plus the fact that golf is an expensive game. The Golf Galaxy chain must be hurting for customers then you add in that the sports super star Tiger Woods has not played any golf on TV for over 6 months now. As fast as these Golf Galaxy super stores popped up we may see them disappear even faster.
Honestly I just don’t get the whole thing. It’s not like we have a baseball galaxy,basketball galaxy,football galaxy or even soccer galaxy super store. Those sports are way more popular than the game of golf, aren’t they?

it will be interesting to see what happens. Tiger’s demise will rock the golf market.
i agree that the golf market will suffer quite a bit until Tiger returns and you know that once he does that will be a golf frenzy!
